Why Choose an NLU? – CLAT Exam, Law Entrance Preparation

The Common Law Admission Test or CLAT is a popular examination for undergraduate students in India. Students who wish to make Law as their career aspire to crack this most prestigious exam. The CLAT is your ultimate gateway into the National Law Universities (NLU’s). Over the past 30 years, the NLU’s have garnered a massive reputation in training top of the line law graduates. The syllabus and course structure mimic the World’s Best Law Universities (likes of Harvard, Stanford etc) and as such, they’ve grown into world-class institutes for Law training. Getting through to a top NLU is an awesome achievement. A top NLU grad can easily earn more than IIM graduates, and these graduates get amazing placement in the top Law firms, banks, Consulting firms and even FMCG companies. The average pay from the top NLU is around 15 LPA, where some graduates from the top 3 (NLS, NALSAR, NUJS), earn above the 30 LPA bracket. International Law firms, too, have followed suit and they prefer to hire National Law School graduates. So since we’ve been ranting about NLU’s, here’s a snapshot!

Why Choose an NLU?

India has 19 National Law Universities and each one is unique in itself. For example:
NLS, Bangalore, NALSAR (Hyderabad), NUJS (Kolkata), NLIU (Bhopal) and NLU (Jodhpur) are the top 5 and getting through these is like a dream come true for a law aspirant. The course structure is insane, with 100’s of electives offered ranging from competition laws to game law to intellectual property rights and more innovative and upgraded areas in the law. All NLU’s offer a similar course structure, but the faculty and the competition in the top 5 are exclusive. NUJS is coming up in a big way through winning International moots and they boast of Day 0 placements (i.e, students are placed even before they graduate through PPO’s). If you’re vying to make it as a top-level professional work hard for CLAT and score within the top 400 AIR’s to help you gain access to the top 5. OPUS is your exclusive guide to help you achieve that rank, read more about us.

Other NLU’s:

• The National Law University, Bhopal is the fifth best NLU as ranked by The week’s ‘Top Law Collages 2017’.
• National Law University Odisha, Cuttack along with the education also extends hostel facilities, sports facilities, and many others.
• Maharashtra National Law University, Mumbai provides courses like B.A, LL.B and LL.M courses and all total it has 5o seats.
• The West Bengal National University, Kolkata has the best faculty. Faculties from other prestigious institutions go there to take classes and share their knowledge with the students.

• Damodaram Sanjivaya National Law University, Vishakhapatnam gives the best internships projects to its students and focuses on their overall development by examining them on the basis of assignments.

Each NLU is unique in its own right, and getting through any of the 19 is an achievement and one should work hard for CLAT to crack into these schools.

CLAT Syllabus and Pattern

The CLAT syllabus has five session that includes English and comprehension, General knowledge/Current affairs, Mathematics, Legal Aptitude and Logical Reasoning.

The English session tests the language ability of a student and his/her fluency in grammar and vocabulary. Reading is an essential component of this section and a student must become an avid reader to sail through the English section consisting of 40 marks.

The GK sections (50 marks) tests a candidates awareness about his current socio-political scenario. Current affairs play a massive role here, where questions from the national and international news, sports, deaths, awards, economy and government schemes and India’s ranks in various indices are tested. There is a small static GK component which might ask you questions from History, Geography, Constitution, civics etc.

The mathematics session (20 marks) has the least weight in the exam. So for the mathematically petrified, CHEERS! However, before we celebrate, let’s warn you that the MATH section is the easiest to crack and it is an important section to boost your rank! The good news is, this section tests your concepts from the 8th and 9th standard! However, the questions are tricky and new techniques to solve them must be mastered! Call OPUS up to help you with this!

The Legal Aptitude Sections ( 50 marks) is the hallmark of the CLAT. It consists of principle – fact-based questions which test you on your aptitude towards reasoning. NO LEGAL KNOWLEDGE IS PRESUMED TO ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS! However, a basic idea of the terminology and concepts (in Contracts, Torts, Constitution, Crime, IPR, International Law) will definitely help you rock this section. OPUS is the leading coaching for CLAT aspirants and they will help you master this (and the other sections)

Finally, The Logical Reasoning section (40 marks) will test you on your Verbal Reasoning and Analytical Ability. Questions from Syllogism, Coding-Decoding, Relations, Directions, Statement Argument – assumption – conclusion – courses of action, assertion reason, Logic Games, Puzzles etc are heavily tested. But don’t worry, OPUS has the most comprehensive set of the material and online platform to help you master this area.

So, we saw that there are a total of 5 sections consisting of 200 marks. The test is of 2 hours. We can infer from this that we have less than a minute to solve a question. Strategy and proper training is the key! Call OPUS to know more.
